WCHS JV’s Capture Baby Bucket
August 25, 2006 at 7:05 am | In High | No CommentsIn an early season contest, the Jr. Patriots exploded for 18 second-half points to regain the mini Mullet Bucket from cross-county rivals, the ECHS Mariners. In a tale of two halves, the Jr. Mariners muscled the Pats to a 6-6 tie at the half. In the second half, the Pats displayed relentless offense and swarming defense. Quote of the night goes to Don Kappel, voice of the Mariners: “Big play for the Mariners; Big play for the Patriots.”

Bucket Visits Mickey D’s
August 23, 2006 at 10:11 pm | In High | No CommentsBrian Watson and the good folks at Cypress Bay McDonald’s have graciously agreed to sponsor the Mullet Bucket post-game cheeseburger feast for the victors of the East / West football game.

The county’s oldest and most popular rivalry game began in 1965 with a 24-20 victory by the Patriots. Since then, the game has picked up a ceremonial Mullet Bucket trophy passed between the schools and filled with hamburgers for the winner each year.
Alumni from either school know it’s not really about buckets and burgers as much as it’s about a year’s worth of bragging rights, currently belonging to East following last year’s 48-0 victory.
But like any rivalry, the past will only matter until kickoff.
Kick-off is at 7:30 this Friday (8/25) at WCHS.

Through school athletics, many of the interests and needs of young people can be served better than through any other channel. For this reason, it is important that school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community personnel determine what educational objectives seem most desirable and plan athletic programs in keeping with the overall purposes of the school program.”
