Fall Ball: Late in the Game

October 19, 2006 at 1:00 pm | In High, Middle | 1 Comment

Fall sports are heading down the homestretch. Kudos to all athletes and coaches (parents, too!) who have remained true to their team colors.

Is this athletics?

You better believe it!

Downeast Beef and Tackle Company

Downeast middle school football is pound for pound the biggest team in the conference. Coach Doug Garner is doing a great job with his mammoths (and his B team). More bonecrushing blows are promised as these big youngins mature through the ECHS regimen of strength and conditioning.

CHS Tennis Prevails
Coach Ginny Mays can barely contain her emotion as she recounts how her lady tennis team finished 2nd in the conference…then knocked off undefeated #1 Columbus County in the first round of the playoffs.

Croatan tennis is a TEAM sport! Coach Mays gives major props to her numbers 5, 6, and 7 who rose to the occasion and won key turn-around matches.

Next up: another undefeated #1, Fairmont. Follow the Lady Cougars 2A playoff bracket.

Mariner’s Continue March toward Championship . . .

at home this Friday against Dixon. Catch this week’s comments of all three high school coaches.

Middle School Football
Morehead Middle is in the driver’s seat going into the last game. But their last two games have each been decided by one score. Keep up with the scores and standings provided by conference webkeeper, Allison G. of NMS.

  1. This is the first I’ve checked out this website, thank you for whoever is keeping it up. It was interesting to see the latest on middle school standings and the comment of “But their last two games have each been decided by one score.” Our coaches were just discussing this with friends of ours – some fellow coaches in our conference, and it seems like running up the scoreboard has become an issue this year. Scoring some 38-44 points is fine when it’s in a win and the other team has 30-38, but we need to realize we are middle school and there is no need to see how many you can put up in a win that is already well in hand. We play to win and yes the conference championship is a goal, but so too should be sportsmanship and winning with pride and humility, which is why we are so proud of our young men here at Morehead Middle.
