A Cold Night of Sports

Last night was downright chilly, but the fields of play heated up with serious action.

Morehead Middle Captures Football Title

The Minutemen finished the season undefeated by defeating Broad Creek 21-0. That wraps up the middle school football season. Congratulations to all football players, coaches, cheerleaders, (and the BCMS band!) for participation and support throughout the season. The competition is healthy; the play is healthier. May the memories of playing middle school sports endure as the 8th graders move on to the next level.

East Side

Beaufort Middle and Downeast lined up on opposite sides of the ball for the last game of the season. Beaufort Middle got the better of the matchup and ended the season near the top of the middle school bracket. The better news here is that next year the big youngins from Downeast will merge with the speed merchants of Beaufort Middle. That winning formula is called the East Carteret Mariners.

West Carteret Soccer

The Patriots lost a 4-3 thriller to Washington to end their season around the .500 mark. This is a quality soccer team in a strong conference. The level of play kept the freezing fans in the stands until the final buzzer.

Croatan Ladies Tennis
The Lady Cougars have knocked off two number ones so far in their playoff run. They defeated undefeated Fairmont 9-nil on 10/24. They face another undefeated number one East Duplin on 10/31. Eight teams remain in the 2A East playoff. Go Coach Mays and the Lady Cougars!  Croatan does a nice job of tracking their sports teams.

Volleyball
All varsity teams are done for the season. But the wild ride continues as the middle school volleyball season is underway. True to form, the Downeast Dolphins have come out of the gate winning. Keep up with the scores and standings provided by conference webkeeper, Allison G. of NMS.

  1. Great job Minutemen. Awesome season. Fantastic group of 8th graders that are athletic and outstanding citizens/students in this school too.
