Middle School Mat Time

On Saturday, January 13, BMS hosted an awesome wrestling opportunity for middle schoolers. It was an open tournament. That means two teams from outside the middle school conference participated. This tested the edges of competition, especially in the upper weight classes.
I made a five-minute movie of the event. The clip includes comments from BMS principal Greg Guthrie, BMS athletic director Gary Chadwick, and BMS wrestling coach Del Boyd. It is a heavyweight movie clip (30mb). If you wish to see it and the official results, follow this link.
Hats off to BMS for this unique event that was well attended and beneficial to the young warriors on the mat.

Ralph Holloway is one of the three leaders named by the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association as the 13th class for induction in its own Hall of Fame. Mr. Holloway is principal of East Carteret High School. The new NCADA Hall of Famers also includes Harold Robinson of Williamston and Doyle Whitfield of Dudley.
The three will be recognized at the annual North Carolina Athletic Directors Association state conference in Wilmington March 27. Mr. Holloway will be honored by the Carteret County Board of Education members at their February 13, 2007, meeting.
The NCADA Hall of Fame has been established to recognize achievement and excellence for athletic administration. The inductees are honored at the NCADA’s annual state convention, and a permanent display honoring the athletic directors’ Hall of Fame is located in the offices of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in Chapel Hill. The new class brings to 58 the number in the Hall.
Ralph Holloway is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University and has had an outstanding career in athletic administration before moving into his current role as principal.
Mr. Holloway has been principal at East Carteret High since 2001 and prior to that served three years as assistant principal and athletic director at West Carteret High School. He came to Carteret County after a successful stint in Kinston where he had served as both head football coach and athletic director. He also coached and taught at Burlington Cummings for six years.
A National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Certified Athletic Administrator, Mr. Holloway served a term on the NCHSAA Board of Directors and was president of the Association during 2004-05. He was inducted into the Palmetto (SC) High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a football player and is in the Cummings High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach.
Mr. Holloway also has been named Athletic Director of the Year by both the NCHSAA and the NCADA.

The Shot Heard ‘Round the Region
January 8, 2007 at 4:57 pm | In High | No CommentsWhen my daughter returned home from Friday night’s WCHS v New Bern boys basketball game, she was excited.
“Daddy,” she said. “You would not believe how West won tonight.”
What I didn’t believe was how my uber-cool 13-year-old was so fired up about a basketball game! But, see for yourself –
Hear Isaiah’s thoughts on the game-winner he launched.
